Drill down functionality

The drill down functionality allows you to navigate between related Revit elements — from a specific element type to its parent or child. Which direction you can drill (up or down) depends on the result of a specific rule.

If a rule finds Family Instances, you can drill up or down to their corresponding Family Types or Families. (Note: “Family Symbol” and “Family Type” are equivalent terms.)

If the rule finds a Shared Parameter, you can drill down to see all families that use this parameter. This is especially useful when you notice that a certain parameter is cluttering your schedules and you need to identify which family introduced it.

  1. Four families in this example project
  2. A Shared Parameter that did not meet the requirements
  3. The drill down button
  4. The result window
  5. Select a line to see more options
  6. After selecting, additional buttons become available
