COBie.Component.InstallationDate -- Expected Values
The COBie.Component.InstallationDate parameter records the date on
which a component was installed.\
This value is required for asset lifecycle management, commissioning,
warranty calculations, and facility operations.
The date shall be provided only once installation is complete and shall use a strict, machine-readable format.
Validation Rules (DAQS)
-
Mandatory for installed components
- All components that have been physically installed shall include a valid installation date.
- Design-stage components shall leave this field empty until installation takes place.
-
Format requirement\ Installation dates shall use the ISO 8601 standard date format:\

-
Logical consistency
- InstallationDate shall not precede the manufacture date or delivery date (if tracked).\
- InstallationDate shall not be in the future at the time of COBie delivery.
-
One date per component\ The value represents the moment of installation completion.\ Partial, phased, or multi-stage dates are not permitted.
-
Responsibility\ The installation contractor or commissioning party is responsible for providing accurate dates.

Relationship to Revit
Autodesk's COBie Extension typically maps this from:\ Revit → Instance Parameter "Installation Date"\ (or an equivalent shared parameter specified in the project template).
Important considerations: - Only instance parameters shall be used for installation dates. - Design teams do not populate this field; contractors and commissioning teams do. - Ensure consistency between Revit, commissioning sheets, and COBie exports.
Best Practices
- Populate installation dates as part of the commissioning workflow.\
- Use direct data from installation logs or commissioning sheets.\
- Maintain date accuracy for warranty and FM system integration.\
- Avoid placeholder values or assumptions before installation occurs.\
- Perform automated QA checks before COBie delivery to identify invalid formats.
