DWG Workset Name

This rule checks whether linked DWG files are placed on a dedicated workset — specifically one named 'Link_CAD'.

📁 Using a dedicated workset for DWG links improves visibility control, performance, and team coordination.

What Is Checked

DAQS inspects each linked DWG instance and verifies:

  • Whether it is placed on a workset named Link_CAD
  • If it is on a different workset, the rule flags it for review

Why This Matters

Placing DWGs on a consistent and dedicated workset allows you to:

  • ✅ Quickly control visibility across views using workset visibility
  • ✅ Temporarily unload DWGs to improve performance
  • ✅ Separate temporary references from native Revit elements
  • ✅ Reduce visual clutter during modeling or coordination

This is especially useful in large projects with many linked files.

How to Fix

  1. Select the DWG link in your model.
  2. In the Properties palette, locate the Workset parameter.
  3. Change the workset to 'Link_CAD'.

💡 If the workset 'Link_CAD' does not exist, create it via Manage → Worksets.

  1. Save and synchronize your model to update the workset assignment.

Custom Workset Naming

If your company uses a different workset name for DWG links (e.g., CAD_Imports, External_Refs):

  • Make a copy of this DAQS rule
  • Update the expected workset name to match your internal standards
  • Apply it across your projects accordingly

🧩 Your BIM manager should define and document the expected workset naming convention for CAD links as part of your company’s Revit template or BEP (BIM Execution Plan).

Tip

Use view templates and workset filters to hide all CAD references during documentation or printing without removing them from the model.
